Who Operates This
BareVid ("the App") and this website are operated by PonkoTools ("we", "us"), an independent developer.
- Contact for questions and requests: [email protected]
If you need the operator's name and postal address for a legal request — including a request under Article 32 of Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information — ask at the address above and we will provide it without undue delay.
Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains what information the App and this website handle, and how it is used.
The flow of information inside the App comes in two parts. The first is what the App itself sends — the advertising SDK is the whole of it. The second is how things stored on your device can leave it, through the operating system and your own settings. Your correspondence with us and this website are each covered in their own section.
We do not carry out the second, and we never receive what goes that way. It is still a route by which your information leaves your device, so it is described here just as plainly.
Information We Collect
The Video Editing Features
All video editing happens on your device, and the App never sends your video data, captions, or saved settings to any server. We run no servers, and nothing in the App sends them to us (the exception is if you pick our contact address as a share destination yourself, described below).
What is stored on your device can nevertheless leave it through the operating system and your own settings (see "How Things Leave Your Device" below). We do not carry that out and we never receive what goes that way, but the route exists.
How Imported Videos Are Stored
When you select a video to edit, the App keeps a working copy in its private storage on the device. This copy:
- Is never uploaded by the App — all processing happens on the device.
- Is marked for exclusion from backups (a per-file attribute on iOS, a declared backup rule on Android), so that editing large videos does not eat into your cloud storage. On iOS, if that attribute cannot be set, the App fails the import and removes the file it had put there (emptying it if it cannot be removed, and leaving it to the next start-up sweep if neither works). On Android the exclusion is a declared rule, so there is nothing to check per import. Either way, whether a file so marked stays out is ultimately the operating system's decision; what we can promise is the asking.
- Is deleted when the last saved settings referring to that video go, or when you uninstall the App (if you made several saves from one video, the copy stays while any of them remain). The original video in your gallery is never touched.
What Your Saved Settings Contain
Your saved settings hold the caption text and memos you typed, the styling you chose (font, colour and so on), your audio, fade and frame settings, the on-device path of the video they apply to, and your language and theme choices. The video file itself lives in the private storage described above, separately from the settings.
What the Advertising SDK Sends
The App uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. AdMob collects advertising and other device identifiers (as available and permitted by your device settings), your IP address (used to estimate approximate location), app interactions, and diagnostic information, for ad delivery, personalization, measurement, and fraud prevention. For details, please refer to Google's Privacy Policy.
This information may also go to advertising technology partners taking part in ad delivery, not to Google alone. Where the consent screen is shown, it lists the current partners and their policies (Settings → Privacy options); where consent management is not called for, that entry point does not appear. We cannot show you a list inside the App in that case. The providers that may take part are published by Google as its list of ad partners — that page names the providers eligible to serve, not only those that took part in delivery to you. For anything more specific, ask at the contact address above.
What the advertising SDK sends is the whole of what the App itself sends.
Your Choices About Ads
Where consent is required, the App asks for it using Google's User Messaging Platform (it checks on every launch and shows the screen when one is needed). The screen lets you decide per purpose and per partner, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time from Settings → Privacy options, which appears whenever this choice applies to you. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.
This is not a choice about whether ads appear. If you do not consent, ads are still requested, and you may see non-personalized ads, ads with limited functionality, or no ad at all. Your IP address is still used to deliver those requests, even without consent.
What your choice changes is mainly this:
| With consent | Without consent | |
|---|---|---|
| Ad personalization | Yes | No |
| Storing information on your device | Within what you consented to | Not where consent is required |
| Requesting and delivering ads, use of IP address | Yes | Yes |
| Fraud prevention and security | Yes | Yes |
Separately, on Android the advertising ID can be deleted or reset in your device settings (the exact steps vary by version). On iOS, what your device settings offer is withdrawing an app's permission to track — the App does not currently ask for that permission, so it may not appear there at all.
If You Contact Us
If you email the address above, we receive and keep your email address and the content of your message in order to respond. Delivery goes through Cloudflare's email routing service and Google's mail service.
How Things Leave Your Device
Nothing described in this section is the App choosing a destination and sending to it. Each one is the operating system acting on your settings, or your own deliberate action. We receive none of it and cannot read any of it — with one exception: if you pick our contact address as the destination in the share feature, then we do, and it is handled as described under "If You Contact Us" above. Either way these are routes by which your information leaves your device, so they are set out separately here.
Backup, and Moving to a New Device (Your Saved Settings)
Your saved settings are covered by your operating system's backup and by device transfers. That includes the caption text and memos described above.
- Android: with backup turned on, they go to a private folder in your own Google Drive account. Google states that this backup data cannot be read by you or by other apps on the device, and we cannot read it either. It uses your Google Account's storage (what counts towards your storage). A direct transfer to a new device carries the same data (Auto Backup).
- iOS: with iCloud Backup turned on, they go to your own iCloud, and they do count against your iCloud storage. A backup to a Mac or PC, and a direct migration to a new device, carry the same data (What does iCloud back up?, Backup methods).
Imported videos are marked for exclusion from backups (see "How Imported Videos Are Stored" above). Thumbnails get the same marking, but an import carries on even if it will not take — we would rather not fail an import over a few kilobytes — so once in a while an unmarked thumbnail stays (it is one frame of a video you already have). Whether either marking carries the same weight for a direct transfer between devices, we have not been able to confirm.
How to turn it off and how to delete it are under "Deleting Information" below.
Exported Videos in Your Photo Library
An exported video is saved to your device's photo and video library. If you have iCloud Photos, Google Photos, or a similar sync or backup feature turned on, it may leave your device according to that setting and that service's policy.
Destinations You Choose Through the Share Feature
The screen you reach when an export finishes has a button that opens your device's share feature. If you press it, you choose where the video goes. We cannot choose the destination and we play no part in what happens after that; the destination's own policy governs it.
How Long Information Is Kept
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Data on your device (working copies, thumbnails, saved settings) | Until you delete it or uninstall the App. We keep nothing. |
| The backup of your saved settings (Android: your Google account; iOS: your iCloud) | Android: turning backup off on your device deletes it, and if you do not use the device for 57 days the backed-up data is erased as well. iOS: turning the App's backup off removes its information from iCloud; if you disable iCloud Backup itself, backups stay available for 180 days. We keep none of it and cannot read any of it. |
| The backup of your saved settings on a Mac or PC | It sits on that computer and stays until you delete it or a later backup replaces it. We play no part in it. |
| Advertising information | Per the retention policies of Google and each advertising partner. We keep nothing. |
| Your correspondence with us | As long as needed to handle your enquiry, then deleted (we cannot guarantee erasure from those services' own backups). |
| Information arising from a visit to this website (the access information Cloudflare processes, and the IP address and browser information Google Fonts receives) | Per the retention policies of Cloudflare and Google. We neither obtain nor keep it. |
This website's language cookie (barevid-lang) | One year, or until you delete it in your browser. |
How We Protect It
The only thing we hold is your correspondence. We handle it in a mail service with access controls, keep access to our account limited to us, and delete it after the period above. Handling by the providers that route and store that mail (Cloudflare and Google) is under their own controls; what we can restrict reaches as far as our own account.
We do not hold advertising information. It is handled by Google and the advertising partners under their own controls.
Third Parties and How They Protect Your Data
The parties we give your information to, for our own purposes, are these:
- Google — ad delivery, personalization, measurement and fraud prevention (AdMob); receiving and holding your correspondence (its mail service); and serving the web fonts on this website (Google Fonts)
- Advertising technology partners taking part in ad delivery — ad delivery, personalization, measurement and fraud prevention (this covers more than one company)
- Cloudflare — delivery and security of this website, and routing email sent to our contact address
What each receives is described under "What the Advertising SDK Sends" and "If You Contact Us" above, and "About This Website" below. We have no parent, subsidiary, or other related entity with access to your information. We do not provide your information to any other third party, and we do not sell it.
We confirm that these third parties handle your information with protection equal to or greater than what this policy states and what the app store guidelines under which the App is distributed require.
That confirmation rests on the terms we accepted in order to use each service, and on the privacy policy each of them publishes (Google, Cloudflare). For the advertising technology partners, Google says of its list of ad partners that the partners on it "have agreed to comply with our data usage policy". We do not audit these companies individually.
Nothing under "How Things Leave Your Device" above — the cloud backup, photo library syncing, or a destination you choose through the share feature — is one of these recipients. We do not hand any of it over; it is the operating system acting on your settings, or your own action. We receive none of it, and the confirmation above therefore does not reach it.
Deleting Information
- Data on your device: delete the saved settings in the App, or uninstall the App. A working copy goes once no saved settings refer to that video any more.
- Advertising information: as described above, on Android the advertising ID can be deleted or reset in your device settings, and on iOS you can withdraw tracking permission. For information held by Google, follow the procedures in Google's Privacy Policy. For information held by the advertising technology partners, use the procedures in each partner's own policy, which are listed on the consent screen where that screen is shown; where it is not, ask at the contact address above and we will point you to them. Withdrawing consent stops the processing that rests on consent — what continues without it is set out in the table under "Your Choices About Ads" — and it is not the same as deleting what is already held.
- Your correspondence: ask at our contact address.
- Information arising from a visit to this website: we hold none of it. For information held by Cloudflare or Google, follow the procedures in their own policies.
- The backup of your saved settings: on Android there are two ways, and they delete different amounts. We have not found an official way to stop it for one app only. (1) Turn backup off on your device — Google states that doing so deletes your backups. That covers the whole backup for that device, so backups belonging to other apps go with it. (2) Delete it from your Google Account dashboard — that reaches further, permanently deleting the device data and WhatsApp data held under that account. On iOS (iCloud), go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Storage → Backups → the device in question, and turn the App off, which removes its information from iCloud. For an iOS backup held on a Mac or PC, connect the device and delete the backup from Manage Backups in the Finder or the Apple Devices app. That too works on the whole device backup, not on the App alone.
- Exported videos in your photo library: delete them in your gallery or Photos app. If you have syncing turned on, delete them on that service as well.
- This website's language cookie: delete it from your browser's site data settings.

Children
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
However, the App does not verify age, so if a child under 13 uses it, the advertising SDK still sends the information described above. The only data about a child under 13 that we are able to delete is correspondence we hold; for information held by advertising providers, we will point you to their own deletion procedures. Please contact us at the address above if you believe this applies to you.
This Website
This help site stores one cookie, barevid-lang, which records whether you are reading the English or the Japanese pages so that the site can open in the same language next time. Its value is only ever en or ja, and it is not used for analytics or advertising.
The site is served from Cloudflare Pages. To deliver the site and keep it secure, Cloudflare may process your IP address, the time of your request, what you requested, and your browser and device information (see Cloudflare's Privacy Policy).
The site loads its web fonts from Google Fonts. That request tells Google your IP address and browser information, as described in Google's Fonts privacy summary.
We run no analytics on this site, and we neither receive nor keep anything about your visit.
Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we will say so prominently on this site.
